ABSTRACT
One of the current challenges in healthcare is improving patient care making it safer by reducing the variability of clinical practice. The incorporation, access and use of clinical knowledge in health professionals daily practice by adopting Clinical Decision Support (CDS) systems and tools, enable the improvement in the quality and outcomes of care, avoid errors and increase clinical processes efficiency.

The purpose of the discussion is to assess the role of virtual libraries in the new decision models, where professionals would be located and how they contribute in these systems.

Challenges of Open Science and Open Research Data in Health Sciences Remedios MELERO, Spain

Descubrimiento
ABSTRACT
There is not a unique definition of open science, but is commonly accepted that open science  means the conduction of science in a way that others can collaborate and contribute, where research data, lab notes and other research processes are freely available, with terms that allow reuse, redistribution and reproduction of the research. The principles Open science is based are: Open Methodology (Methods, processes, relevant documents);Open Source (Soft- and Hardware);  Open Data (data free to re-use); Open Access  to scholarly outputs (gratis and libre); Open Peer Review (transparency in evaluation and quality criteria), and Open Educational Resources (MOOCs, OERs). Open Science (OS) offers researchers tools and workflows for transparency, reproducibility, dissemination and transfer of new knowledge. I will focus my lecture on open access to publications and open research data, how all stakeholders within the research lifecycle have reacted and adopted this new paradigm, and how open access and data sharing could foster collaboration, avoid redundant work, contribute to growth and innovation and particularly how this conception of open science could help to healthcare, always under an umbrella of respect for privacy and ethical codes of conduct.
