Abstract
The results of a survey sent to the moderators of blogs or sites about sharing literature search blocks/site will be presented and discussed.

Introduction
As part of the EAHIL-ICAHIS-ICLC workshop in June 2015 a workshop about “Sharing Literature Search Blocks” was organized by Gerdien de Jonge (Netherlands) and Regina Küfner Lein (Norway). Together with the 23 participants a preliminary overview of the known initiatives was created and aspects of accessibility, responsibility, quality and updating were discussed.
Some of the results, as published in Journal of EAHIL 2015; Vol. 11(3):11-14), were:

  • More than 60 % of the participants reuse search blocks for common subjects, mainly in their own or local accounts
  • All participants want to share more and in a better way
  • Beside the medical and health care disciplines, also patient issues were mentioned as important subjects
  • The top five of databases for sharing search blocks were: PubMed (Medline), Cinahl (Ebsco), Medline (Ovid, NHS), Embase (Ovid, embase.com) and Cochrane (Wiley)

Methods
To learn from practice we have sent a survey to ten moderators and initiators of sharing sites and blogs of sharing search blocks/strings about their experiences in February-March 2016. Questions were:

  • How are the sharing sites organized in time/effort/budget, control/quality, agreements, responsibilities?
  • What are the strengths and weaknesses, what problems were faced and how were they solved?
  • What are the plans of the existing sharing sites for the near and further future?

Nine surveys were filled in partly or completely, coming from USA, Canada, Australia, UK, Norway and the Netherlands.

Results and discussion
We will present the results of the survey and discuss the ideas and initiatives for better cooperation and networking in reusing search blocks.
Many hands make light work, please join us in this session with your thoughts and opinions.
