Libraries have key roles in supporting the achievement of national and international global health targets. We have a moral responsibility as global citizens.
We provide timely, accurate and essential information to health professionals dealing with disease outbreaks, such as the Zika virus and Pandemic Flu epidemic. Through our current awareness services we disseminate health policies and strategies from the United Nations and the World Health Organization to our communities.
We know that we do much more than this. We need to show what we do to help achieve these international global health targets.
An example of this is the global action plan on the public health response to dementia 2017-2050 which was released in the May 2017 World Health Organization General Assembly. The aims of this plan are to improve the lives of people with dementia, their families and the people who care for them, and to decrease the impact of dementia on communities and countries.
