Transportation to and from the International Helsinki -Vantaa airport.

Around 120 international flights a day arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, which is situated 19 kilometres from the centre of Helsinki and can be reached by car in approximately 25 minutes. You can also take a taxi, the Finnair airport bus or Bus 615 to the Central Railway Station.

Travelling within Helsinki

With a single ticket you can hop aboard trams, busses, the metro and even the ferry to Suomenlinna. Single tickets can be purchased from the driver, from ticket machines or even by sending an SMS text message by mobile phone (requires a Finnish service provider). Tickets cost around 2 €.

Taxis can usually be hailed from the street in the city centre, except during busy periods. There are also plenty of taxi stands throughout the city. You can order a taxi by phone by calling locally 0100 0700

Travelling within Finland

Rail connections operate from Helsinki to all Finnish rail destinations, including Lapland. Express bus services also cover the whole country from Helsinki.


There are also several car rental agencies to choose from.

The official currency in Finland is the Euro.

Currency exchange service is available at the airport, banks, hotels, and exchange offices (FOREX)

Shopping

Shops are generally open 9 - 18 on weekdays and 9 - 14 on Saturdays; department stores and shopping centres are open 9 - 21 on weekdays and 9 -18 on Saturdays. In summer and before Christmas the department stores can be open also on Sundays until 9 pm.

Tipping

No tipping is expected allthough you can leave small change if you wish.
