Isla Kuhn Isla Kuhn has been Reader Services Librarian in Cambridge University Medical Library since September 2006. As well as delivering training and support to staff and students of the University, she liaises with regional and national healthcare librarians for support of NHS resources. Isla is interested in the development and utilisation of web 2.0 tools, training and education.

In the UK continuing professional development is seen to be a necessary professional activity. However resourcing is problematic and funding varies between employing agenciesThe 23Things programme has evolved to address these constraints. In particular it reduces the time for staff to be absent from core functions and makes maximum use of peer support. Within a common structure the programme delivers development to personnel at all professional levels. Activities are learner defined and relevant to their personal context. The pace of progress is learner determined.

During this half day workshop participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with the key features of the 23Things Programme: setting tasks and activities, monitoring participant activity, and potential pitfalls. It will be assumed that participants have some experience of web 2.0 technologies - topics included in many recent 23 Things programmes have focused on, but not been limited to, web 2.0 technologies. By the end of the session participants will be in a position to design a 23Things Programme relevant to their own workplace.

This course requires participant to be at least intermediate or even advanced in their knowledge of web2.0 technologies.
