Tartu is the second largest town of the country with 100.000 inhabitants. Being first mentioned in chronicles in 1030, Tartu is one of the oldest towns in the Baltic region.
The University of Tartu was founded in 1632 by the king of Sweden Gustav II Adolf.
Today the University of Tartu is the most important centre of education, culture and science in Estonia.
The Conference Hall (the Library of University) situated in the centre of Tartu, almost next to the Town Hall. Hotels, shops, restaurants, museums are available within walking distance.
