The new millennium for EAHIL begins with important changes in the statutes and the biggest medical librarianship congress ever. The work for the new statutes has been going on for some time now, and they will be presented to the members at the General Assembly in London in July. The EAHIL sessions and meetings will be held as separate events of their own at the 8th International Congress on Medical Librarianship. This is a good opportunity for every member to be active in the process of accepting and/or modifying the proposal for new statutes. As we all remember, the move from Brussels to Amsterdam caused a revision of the legal aspects in the statutes, and the statutes themselves required a review. This happens in every association over the course of time, and this work is never easy. A considerable period of time has been used by the revisers to achieve good results. The year 2000 is also a year of elections for our association, and the voting papers will be sent to members in due time.

The Big Event of the year 2000 is the International Congress in London. All continents will participate and we shall meet colleagues even from very far away countries. There will be papers on the overall theme of blurring the boundaries between the information professional, the publisher and the information technology professional. In our everyday work we already realise the great changes that are taking place in publishing research results, and this Congress will be an excellent opportunity to listen to experts relating the latest news. Various associations in the medical librarianship field will be holding their meetings, and so will EAHIL. All our congresses have been successes, and this time it will really be exciting to participate in a huge and most international meeting. So, Converge on London!

Now we have the pleasure to tell that two new countries are able to send their representatives to the Council. Hungary and Greece have now both five members and can thus have a representative in the Council. We welcome them and hope for an active role on their part. In late January the Board will have a joint meeting with the Council in Amsterdam, and we are happy to see that most of the Council members are able to attend the meeting. We will use this time to work out a new more active role for the Council members in developing our activities.

LE CONSEIL DE l’AEIBS 
- LE NOUVEAU MILLENAIRE

Le nouveau millénaire verra d’important changements pour l’AEIBS dans ses statuts, et la plus grande conférence de bibliothèques médicales jamais organisée. Le travail sur les nouveaux statuts s’est poursuivi depuis quelque temps déjà et les statuts seront présentés aux membres à l’Assemblée Générale à Londres en juillet.

Les séances de l’AEIBS et les réunions auront lieu comme activités indépendantes pendant le 8ème Congrès International des Bibliothèques Médicales. C’est une occasion excellente pour chaque membre de pouvoir être actif dans l’acceptation, le rejet ou la modification des nouveaux statuts qui seront proposés. Comme nous nous en souvenons tous, le déménagement de Bruxelles à Amsterdam a nécessité une revision des aspects légaux des statuts et les statuts eux-mêmes devaient être revus. Chaque association doit se soumettre à de telles revisions et ce n’est jamais facile. Un temps considérable y a été consacré afin d’obtenir de bons résultats.

L’an 2000 est aussi une année d’élections pour notre association et les bulletins de vote seront envoyés aux membres de l’AEIBS en temps voulu.

La grande manifestation de l’an 2000 est le Congrès International à Londres. Chaque continent y participera et nous y rencontrerons des collègues de pays très lointains. Il y aura des communications sur le thème des frontières floues entre le professionel de l’information, l’éditeur et le spécialiste technique. Dans notre travail quotidien, nous faisons déjà face aux grands changements qui ont pris place dans le domaine de la publication des résultats de la recherche et ce congrès représente une excellente occasion d’entendre des spécialistes nous donnant les dernières nouveautés. Diverses associations de la bibliothéconomie médicale auront leurs réunions comme l’AEIBS. Tous nos congrès ont été un succès et cette fois, ce sera vraiment excitant de participer à un immense congrès des plus internationaux. C’est pourquoi, convergez sur Londres!

Aujourd’hui nous avons le plaisir d’annoncer que deux nouveaux pays peuvent envoyer leurs représentants au Conseil. La Hongrie et la Grèce ont tous deux 5 membres et ainsi peuvent avoir un représentant au Conseil. Nous leur souhaitons la bienvenue et nous espérons qu’ils rempliront un rôle actif. A fin janvier, le Bureau aura une réunion avec le Conseil à Amsterdam et nous sommes heureux de constater que la plupart des membres du Conseil pourront être présents à cette réunion.Nous en profiterons pour définir un nouveau rôle plus actif pour les membres du Conseil dans le développement de nos activités.
