The group has no President at the moment and we think that actually the priority at present is the organization of the pharmaceutical section at Converge 2000, London, not elections. This is the consensus of Giovanna Miranda and Luisa Vercellesi, who are the only members who have expressed interest as candidates in running the group regarding the "presidency". In London we shall hold a formal meeting of the group and on that occasion there will be a ballot where only the full PhInG members will have the right to vote.

Let's prepare for the meeting: from now until the end of the year we must define the membership. In fact at the moment we can only hazard a guess at potential members, who will be contacted as far as possible individually. In addition to this and articles in the newsletter, we shall also send a couple of e-mails through the EAHIL internet discussion list.

In London at the meeting we hope to be able to confirm or modify the present statute. From September 99, we are asking the EAHIL secretary to invite new members of the Association to express their willingness to join Phing as well. Please note there will be no additional fee for membership of PhInG.

In the meantime, it is perhaps advisable to maintain a pragmatic attitude and proceed with the organization of Converge 2000: a group is already at work. The first output has been the definition of the theme of the session "Information Needs in the Pharmaceutical Industry" and we are now initiating contacts with invited speakers. As soon as more information is available, we shall inform you which topics will be covered.

In addition to the invited speakers, we are planning a poster session for the pharmaceutical members, who are warmly invited to contribute. The accepted posters will be displayed and time (3 mins) will be allowed for the authors to discuss their work at the end of the formal session. So if you are interested in contributing please send a short abstract by Dec. 1 to us at Luisa.Vercellesi@basiglio.zeneca.com or giovanna.miranda@sanofi.com.

There is still time to convey any comments and suggestions in order to organize a fruitful session, close to the real interests of the pharmaceutical information professionals.

We hope for many participants and to enrol new members inside and outside the Association. Please make a note in your agenda!

NOUVELLES DU GROUPE D'INFORMATIONPHARMACEUTIQUE: PREPARATION D'UNE REUNION A LONDRES ET
ORGANISATION D'UNE SEANCE POUR
LA CONVERGENCE 2000

Dans le dernier numéro , vous vous souvenez que quelques membres du groupe pharmaceutique ont envoyé une invitation pour que d'autres membres se joignent au groupe.Nous n'avons recu qu'une seule réponse de Irena Sekaninova, de l'Université des sciences vétérinaires et pharmaceutiques de Brno, République Tchèque, qui est la bienvenue.

Le groupe actuellement n'a pas de président/e mais nous considérons que la priorité est l'organisation d'une session pharmaceutique pour Convergence 2000, à Londres, et non pas des élections. C'est en tout cas le sentiment de Giovanna Miranda et Luisa Vercellesi qui sont les seules membres à avoir exprimé leur intérêt pour une candidature comme présidente. A Londres nous aurons une réunion formelle où des votations limitées aux seuls membres du groupe PhinG auront lieu.

En vue de cette réunion et d'ici la fin de l'année, nous devons définir notre participation comme membres. Au fait, pour le moment, nous pouvons seulement définir nos membres potentiels, avec qui nous prendrons contact aussi tôt que possible, individuellement. En plus, avec des articles pour le Bulletin d'Information de l'AEIBS, nous enverrons quelques messages électroniques pour les listes de discussion.

A Londres pendant notre réunion, nous espérons pouvoir confirmer ou modifier notre statut actuel. Nous demandons au secrétariat de l'AEIBS que dès septembre 1999, les nouveaux membres de l'Association acceptent éventuellement de faire partie également de PhInG. Il n'y aura pas de cotisation supplémentaire pour devenir membre de PhInG.

Entre temps, il peut être important de conserver une attitude pratique et de poursuivre l'organisation de Convergence 2000 auquel un groupe travaille déjà. Un thème "les besoins informationnels dans l'industrie pharmaceutique" a été défini pour notre session et nous sommes en train d'initier des contacts pour inviter des conférenciers. Nous vous informerons des sujets qui seront présentés dès que possible.

En plus de conférenciers invités, nous prévoyons une séance de posters où les participants auront trois minutes pour présenter leur travail à la fin de la session formelle. Il est encore possible de nous faire parvenir vos commentaires et suggestions afin d'organiser une séance valable, qui représente les intérêts des professionnels de l'information pharmaceutique.

Nous espérons voir de nombreux participants et d'enregistrer de nouveaux membres de l'Association ou non. Marquez votre calendrier!

Nursing and Allied Health: from SIG towards Subgroup

Dear Members,

A special interest group meeting for nursing and allied health was held at the EAHIL Conference in Utrecht last year. We agreed to investigate starting an EAHIL subgroup. Unfortunately, very little has happened since that meeting and the initiative seems to have died out.

Are there any EAHIL members who would be interested in taking the initiative to getting a group going along with Christine Urquhart and me? Take a look at the Veterinary and Pharmaceutical subgroups' home pages http://www.eahil.net/subgroups.htm to see what this involves.

We are sure that an active subgroup would promote the needs and interests of nursing and allied health librarians within EAHIL and possibly help to recruit new members. Why not join us?!
