Librarian Support for Systematic Reviews and other major research Projects.

Librarians are increasingly called upon to support systematic
reviews and other major research projects. This workshop will address the
information retrieval issues associated with such projects.
We shall address the following:

• Understanding the research question (PICO)
• Identifying randomised controlled trials and non-randomised studies
• Identifying existing systematic reviews
• Document acquisition
• Managing references using bibliographic software
• Documenting the search process for publication

E-Learning: New opportunities for librarians

The course will give the participants the basics about:
- what is e-learning
- main components of an e-learning course
- technological aspects
- human and communication aspects
- advantages and pitfalls in e-learning project management
The course will also suggest which are the areas where e-learning may be used to get good results (information literacy; database searching; etc.).
A final section will be devoted to the research aspects of interoperability of repositories, Learning Management Systems and Digital Libraries (Open Access and Licensed Resources).

English for Librarians

The course crucially aims at enhancing your spoken skills in the following professional areas:
• Giving oral presentation
• Chairing meetings /conference sessions
• Handling audience sessions
• Joining a debate/ a meeting
• share ideas and discuss professional issues
• effective style in a poster session
The course will sketch the main written language skills needed to access electronic resources and read scientific documents. Participants will be able to:
• identify print and online resources for basic and library, medical, and web english vocabulary.
