Finding the evidence to support EB Health Care
by Andrew Booth
Half day course.
This course will cover the basic principles involved in Finding the Evidence.
It will cover focusing the question, filtering the literature, and using
pre-filtered resources. It will conclude with a brief look at the usefulness of
the Internet as a source for evidence.
Aim:
The course will provide delegates with basic knowledge and skills required to
work in an evidence based healthcare environment. It will equip them with a
broad understanding of evidence based principles and practice and help them to
identify future areas of development for both themselves and their service.
Scope:
The course will be of particular relevance to those working in libraries
serving clinical staff (e.g. doctors, nurses, professions allied to medicine).
It will also be of interest to those working in pharmaceutical libraries or
those providing information services to consumers.
Method:
The overall method of delivery will be problem-based, employing realistic
scenarios as a focus for exercises and discussion. There will be supporting
demonstrations and didactic teaching. The overall course philosophy will be
grounded in evidence based information practice with frequent reference to
research studies that support the techniques that are being demonstrated.
