Digital libraries, digital archives, intranets, and knowledge management: Is it possible to integrate these contents with a common interface?

Our aim is to study how information is organized and structured in all these four cases, so that we can determine whether there is an information core common to all of them. Also, we want to establish if there are any sub-cores common to different parts of the whole. If so, there must be a possibility to manage the shared content by using a common interface. We will try to describe the nature and structure of each of the four divisions (digital libraries, digital archives, intranets, and knowledge management) and the means by which the content of each division is managed. We will next propose a model for a tool that constitutes an interface allowing simultaneous access to the content of all four divisions.

We deal with the following concepts/tools: data, information, formats, patterns, procedures, management, software, classification, indexation, interfaces, networked environments, information exchange, users, builders, scanning, meta-information, hierarchical structures, archival finding, collections, information sharing, etc.

Once we have presented the tool we will examine its performance within a digital medical library.
