Scientific activity of the workers of Semmelweis University mirrored by medical librarians 1993 – 2003 Measurement and evaluation

Ancsan G. (Semmelweis University, Central Library)

The authors try to give a comprehensive view about the scientific activity in the Semmelweis University. They examine the publication activity by means of scientific index numbers, the national and international acknowledgement of individual authors by citation of their articles. They discuss the evaluation problems Hungarian articles published in internationally not known, in JCR not registered periodicals. They analyse the most often occurring mistakes in evaluating the publications, reveal the problems that may arise during the citation analyses and discuss the practical questions of publication with special regard to the types of manuscripts and to the selection of periodicals.
They compare the scientific activity of different faculties of the university and demonstrate, that the given results do not mirror the actual work hidden behind of publication activity.
They try to define the role of medical librarians in scientific life and research work of the university and to show, how can the competent medical librarian help the scientists and make their research work more effective.
